Greta Gerwig Dancing to Arcade Fire’s “Afterlife” Is a Delight!!!

greta gerwig youtube music awards

Call me Lermontov, but Greta Gerwig is so charming that I want her to never stop dancing, ever. She could be like the indie darling Victoria Page, except without that tragic mess with the train. But I digress…

The YouTube Music Awards aired this past Sunday, and I missed them. Mostly because I tend to spend my Sundays in the company of lesbians, but also because I’m an Old who does not like change. Besides, the Crotchety Old Queen Prevention Hotline (1-888-NO-BITCH) stopped taking my calls, so I can’t afford yet another award show leaving me bewildered by the popular zeitgeist. Nope and no thank you! Now fetch me my vegan and gluten-free prune juice!

Anyways, I nevertheless tracked down Arcade Fire’s performance, because when I’m not being an old lesbian, I’m being an old lesbian hipster. Greta Gerwig dances, Spike Jonze directs, and while it might sound like an all-you-can-twee buffet, it’s really quite delightful:

Presented With Limited Commentary: A Whole Bunch of Things That This Kid Hates
April 5, 2010

It’s worth mentioning that this kid drops the F-bomb.  A lot.  So let that help you decide whether it’s better to watch this video now or save it for later, but let’s also be clear that you do need to watch this video at one point or another because this kid’s rant seriously deserves a gold star:

To the back of the line, kid who hates Lady Gaga! Nobody Puts Baby in a Horner has a new YouTube rant winner, and it’s this kid.  He hates EVERYTHING.

Oh, and much love to Videogum for this YouTube rant hotness.

The U2 360° Tour Concert Film Will Premiere on YouTube?!? Shut Your Fabulous Face, Interwebs!!!

U2 360 YouTube best news ever ever

Oh, hello U2 news that elicited a thousand SQUEEE!s of enthusiasm:

U2 has announced that Sunday night’s concert at the Rose Bowl is being filmed for a future DVD release … and that it will be streamed live online, too. According to an email being sent to U2.com subscribers, the webcast will begin at 8:30 pm PT.

I don’t even care that 8:30 pm PT is 11:30 pm over here on the east coast, nor does it make a lick of difference to me that the L.A. Times reports that the concert will remain archived on YouTube after its live premiere, thereby making it possible for me to watch at my convenience.  I’m watching the stream live.  Every last minute of it.

Yes, there are downsides to staying up ’til 2 am on account of your inability to exhibit an ounce of self-control when U2 is involved.  You may be really tired at work the next day for example.  Or perhaps you find yourself having to hide that shiner your roommate gave you because you couldn’t stop shrieking at your computer.  Worthy sacrifices, I’d say.

Seriously, check out this trailer and tell me it won’t be worth a punch to the face:

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised Via Vlogs; or, Against “Fuck You”
May 5, 2009

Supposedly this video has been making the rounds today on the internet; and I’ve been told that, in particular, this was THE Facebook video for the gays.  I’m not sure precisely sure what it is other than painfully frustrating, but give it a go and see how far you can make it.  I made it 41-seconds in before I had to stop it.  Let’s see how much of it you can take (oh, and by the by, the language is definitely not safe for work):

Insofar as this video is making a statement against homophobia, that’s great.  I’m glad to see that the internet is being used as a tool to connect members from various parts of the world into a digital community.  The interwebs are exciting, and this is the future y’all!  These young queers are certainly making the most of it, and that’s a wonderful thing.  Metaphorically speaking, these kids are like Queer 2.0, and I’m just running on Homos ’95.

So then why then am I so bothered by this video?  Is it the fact our operating systems might simply not be compatible, so to speak?  Or perhaps is it the fact that watching people vlog makes me quite uncomfortable with the extreme exhibitionism of it all?

Whatever the case, let’s discuss:
