Sad news, y’all. The AP is reporting that Zelda Rubinstein passed away yesterday at the age of 76. Not only did she star in one of the great camp classics, Teen Witch, but she was also part of this rather fantastic AIDS awareness campaign:

It goes without saying that Poltergeist is a masterpiece of 1980s horror in its own right, and Zelda Rubinstein’s performance is one of the most crucial elements to its lasting appeal. What could have been broad eccentricity instead achieves an ethereal gravity that defines Poltergeist as a cinematic experience, and it’s impossible to imagine anyone else in the role of Tangina.
So may you rest in peace, Zelda Rubinstein. You left a special mark in film, and you will be truly missed.
